About
Americans on AI is a project to understand Americans' evolving views on artificial intelligence.
Our first study, launched in July 2026, is a biweekly tracking survey of US adults, which is currently fielded by NORC at the University of Chicago.
AI is playing an increasingly large role in American life. One-off surveys, each with their own scope and methods, cannot reveal how views are evolving along with the technology. Our tracking survey sets a high-quality baseline of Americans' attitudes and uncovers changes over time, for all adults and different demographic groups.
The survey questionnaire was co-developed with Early Studies, based on qualitative interviews and more than twenty pilot studies. We continue to evolve the survey instrument and methodology, and welcome feedback from the public, journalists, researchers, or policymakers.
We have several other studies underway, which will be published toward the end of 2026 and in the first half of 2027.
The team behind Americans on AI is Caroline Behringer, president of Athena Insights, and Colin Bortner, its head of research.
